The driving factor behind School of Fish Guide Service is learning. The internet is a fantastic resource for all things fishing, but it can be very difficult to learn the basic knowledge that is required when you’re just staring out. There’s countless kids, parents, and individuals interested in taking advantage of the fishing opportunities available in Nova Scotia, but there’s not always a place for these anglers to learn the basics and put them into practice. School of Fish wants to help build the foundation for all anglers of all ages.
- What do you need for a fishing rod, and fishing line?
- Basic fishing knots.
- Live bait, what works, where to get it, and when are you allowed to use it?
- Lures, what types, and when is a good time to try them?
- Fish species, Nova Scotia has trout, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, striped bass, mackerel: where can you catch these, what time of year is good?
- You’ve caught a fish, what’s the safest way to hold it? Can you keep it? If you keep it what is the best way to prepare it?
Learn 2 Fish Programs are currently being offered to interested groups through the Fish Nova Scotia initiative, working with the Nova Scotia Guides Association. Future plans are for School of Fish to work with the existing Learn 2 Fish programs and bring the existing program structure to more groups in the future. Keep an eye on the School of Fish social media to hear about future Learn 2 Fish programs in your area.
